Gaining Link Popularity For Increased Web Site Traffic

September 29th, 2009 | Posted in Blogging Tips, SEO, Website Traffic

Link popularity is a term which refers to the number of hyper-links pointing to a web page on the net. A popular page will have many links pointing to it. Fewer popular web pages will have few if any links pointing in. Link Popularity becomes increasingly important for gaining PageRank for a web page. PageRank is a measure for how relevant a web page is considered against other related pages. The ranking system works on a zero to ten rating system, the highest ranking of ten being the most relevant pages for the topic.

The major search engines began looking at link popularity years ago in their algorithms. Links help the search engine’s programs to weed out poor pages and find valuable pages for their search results. A hyper-link which points to another web page is looked at as a “vote” for that page from other webmasters. If a webmaster is willing to place a link on their site, which sends their visitors to another page then that page must have value.

Many webmasters use link building strategies in order to gain link popularity for their pages in the search engines. Getting links from other sites that point into their pages will help increase the ranking in the search results for that page. Better ranking’s means increased traffic and more income. The best links are considered ones that come from other relevant pages, which share the same topic or theme. The site should have good PageRank or be in good standing with the search engines. The older and more authoritative the site is the better the link quality. These links are very difficult to get but here are some tips.

1) Know how to make your links work for you. A web page should be built around a specific keyword. Make sure to use the exact keyword in the anchor text for any links that you are able to get.

2) Never use tricks or programs to try and undermined the search engines link algorithm. These tricks and software programs will get your site penalized at best and banned for life at worst. There is no way to trick the search engines for the long term. Use only white hat link building techniques that are in the guidelines of the search engines.

3) Never participate in link farms, these do not help a site at all anymore. Search engines have placed much more value on one way links. These links are much more difficult to get, especially on authority sites with great content. Stay away from the older methods used to help gain link popularity.

4) Let your content be the leading factor to get great links. If your site is poor in quality, has little or no content and is just not valuable for anyone in general no one will link to it. A webmaster who places a link to another site will only do so if it will benefit their visitors. The only way to win over these webmasters and get the links is by having the best and the most relevant content for whatever your site theme is. If webmasters see a high quality site with great resources and information for their users, they will be much more likely to link to the site.

5) List to all the major and hub free directories that you can find. These directory links are not as strong as they once were but still quick and easy to get. They will be one way links and especially for a new site help get some link popularity in the search engine’s eyes. Try to get at least three links from directories every time you add a new page. They may not be the best links to get, but they will help get a site off on the right track.

6) Write and distribute articles to promote your site. You can write articles and distribute them to article directories. This will get you one way links and build link popularity. You also can try and contact bloggers or other webmasters and see if you can write an article for their site or blog in return for a link. Writing and distributing articles are a great way to get the word out on your site, promote a page of the site and generate a viral buzz over time.

7) Never let a link building strategy take over all your time, it is counter productive. A site needs to keep adding great content to do well over time. Having a few pages on a site and working constantly to get links is not the best way to manage time. Rather work towards adding a new page of amazing content a day and spend a little time trying to get a couple links pointing into it.

8 ) Let your content get the links for you. Sometimes the best approach for getting links is a passive one. There is a term being used today in search engine marketing called “Link Bait”. This refers to the building of a web page that is controversial or news worthy, something that will get attention and be spread around the net quickly to get one way links on its own. Link bait is a weird term, if you concentrate on always creating the best most worthy pages for the web then your entire site will become “Link Bait”. It will get noticed and gain attention in time on its own. The link popularity will grow on its own along with the site. This will bring great search rankings, traffic and income potential.

When it comes to gaining link popularity it should be a concern to any webmaster. Just stick within the rules and use the accepted methods for building link popularity. Never try to trick the search engines for better rankings, it will get you banned. Try just getting some easy directory links and distributing an article for every new page you add. Make sure to get the keywords into the anchor text of the link at all times. The most important part of a link building strategy is to create content to great on its topics and theme that every webmaster will want to link to it on their own. If your site is not “link worthy” or valuable in any way your link popularity will suffer. Use these simple yet effective tips to put together a winning link strategy today!

How to select a Niche Subject for your Blog

November 12th, 2008 | Posted in Blogging Tips, Online Marketing Tips

How to select a niche subject is a very commonly asked question. The most effective way to begin thinking about what your blog has to be about is to keep in mind what you are about. You have to spot your interests and excitement for different subjects. You might very often feel like starting a blog that other people are interested in or what fetches more income. However, there is no much sense in starting a blog that you are not interested in. There are two important reasons for this.

To begin with, if you wish to create a famous and well appreciated blog, then it will take you great time and you will have to keep a long-period target in setting it up. Therefore you will have to question yourself whether you can write on the particular subject for a long time. If the answer is no, then it’s wise to think of some other subject.

Secondly, your readies will easily realize if you are interested and have a hold on the subject or not. Blogs that have no strong and attractive content in them do not grow. It is very obvious that no one wants to reader something written by someone who has no hold on the subject.

Is the Subject Famous?

The blogger’s interest is an important element, but it is not sufficient to make a blog famous. The other important element is that people desire to read the matter on the subject you are writing on. The rule of demand and supply is what many students are thought in the beginning of their economics class. You would be fascinated about the subject you are writing but unless the readers are interested you will have to struggle establishing your blog. Remember that you are writing in a means with a world wide readership and thus you do not require a subject that everyone is looking for. Just that a few people are looking for because it is also something that even a tiny percentage of audiences have a dynamic interest in it could be a profitable area.

Is the Subject growing or dwindling?

Remember that famous subjects keep changing eventually. It is excellent to get on a subject before it turns out to be big rather than when it is turning down. This is not an easy task but predict the next great stuff that people will be in need of and you could be very successful. Always try to give the people what they are looking for. Observe what people are looking for and what the recent trends are.

What are the competitions?

One of the problem that some of the bloggers are locked into while selecting a subject is to go for the most famous subjects without considering the competition that they would have to come across in the market. The chances are if you have selected a niche that you think is in demand at the time that others would also have. It’s the concept of demand and supply that again comes. For any amount of demand for information on a particular subject there would just be a few sources having the required information that is necessary on that subject.

The web is turning out to be a more scattered place and at times it looks like there are no niches that are available to blog on. This is a fact in many famous topics. But, keep in mind that you will not have to go for the subjects that have less or no competition that are the excellent earners. At times blogs become a large fish in a tiny lake rather than a tiny fish in a larger lake.

When your competition would have the privilege of an established audience, you have the privilege of flexibility and can locate your blog faster to pack an empty space in the niche that you observe. By doing this you generate a sub-niche inside the wider subject.

One of the main elements of a successful blog is that the capacity to carry on with new content on the subject for a long time. On the other hand, one of the factor that would put an end to many blogs is that their run out of matters to publish. To check if you have enough content could be done in two ways;

1- See if you have sufficient content within you as an author. The answer would be yes only if you have enough interest and passion towards the subject.
2 -See if you have access to sufficient sources that could help you with your content. There are a number of tools that you can find that could guide you in getting content.

If you wish to earn some income through blogging you will have make a research on whether the subject you have selected has any possibility to earn income. It is excellent to find a subject that you are interested in that just is in great demand and no competition; but the fact is that majority of the subjects that you select would have at least one drawback. But don’t let this stop you. At times you just have to stop thinking and start blogging. The main answer is to identify the drawback and try to solve it.

Discovering A Perfect Web Hosting Provider For Your Blog

October 29th, 2008 | Posted in Blogging Tips, Marketing Tools-Resources

There are tons of web hosting providers. When you look for a web hosting provider for your blog the thing that you can almost neglect are the bandwidth and disk space. Many web hosting providers offer huge disk space and bandwidth that are much more than what you need.

They most important element is the safety of data. You cannot even think of missing all your data that you have worked on for years due to hardware failure on the web server. The web hosting providers must always keep a backup copy of data that is hosted through their servers. You mast also be able to get total technical help and time you are in need. Majority of the web hosting providers do not succeed in doing so.

To know how good the blog is just visit the forums and learn what the other users feel about the site. You should also make sure that the blog is accessible to your costumers all the time. Find out if you web hosting provider is providing Control Panel or not. Control panel lets you handle the files in your directory on the web server, track visitors, create e-mail, make use of disk space and bandwidth and much more.

Try to look for a medium sized web hosting provider as companies that have loads of domains could slow down the speed. A medium sized company contains sufficient number of users to rely on and yet they aren’t too large. If you want to install WordPress then you will require a web hosting provider who provides PHP and MySQL database installed. Most of the web hosting providers have it but the cheaper ones may not have MySQL database. If the web hosting is not up to the mark then you may have to face a huge amount of problems. Thus it is very necessary to be cautious while selecting a web hosting provider.

September 16th, 2008 | Posted in Blogging Tips, Marketing Tools-Resources, Online Marketing Tips, WordPress

There are a huge number of blogs platforms available in the market. You could change your blog platform anytime later if you wish to, majority of them have methods of importing and exporting the matter later. Normally there are some costs attached with such transfers. It is wise not to hurry and select the first option you come across. Take some time to decide, research a little and you could come across a perfect platform that would last for a long time. Try to answer the questions given below and you might end up getting the perfect track.

The most fundamental thing to do while selecting a blog platform is to keep in mind what is your requirement and purpose of your blog. Beginners would find it a little tricky to make a decision. But considering the following questions would help you to decide easily.

  • What is the key purpose of your blog?
  • Would you like to continue blogging for a longer period?
  • Are you thinking of adding ads on your blog?
  • Are you planning to start the blog as a hobby or as a professional?

There would be many other doubts you would want to clear. It’s a good thing to clear these doubts with some research because there are a few platforms that are suitable for people who want to maintain a blog as a hobby and the ones who think of maintaining it professionally.

If you are planning to select WordPress, then it’s a good choice. This blog is using WordPress. You may easily install it with one click at webhosts that support wordpress.

Blog platforms are available in a wide selection. You will come across the ones that are free of cost and also paid ones. But you really don’t need paid ones, as wordpress and blogger are great and free! (plus others too). There are three essential things that are worth paying for. They are:

Various blogging platforms provide diverse levels of service. A few of them like WordPress and Blogger provide platform, domain name and free hosting as well. But it’s better to get your own host, and install the free platform on it.

The other expenses that you would want to consider in the initial stage are:

Design: each platform is available with free templates. However, if you wish to have a more personal look then you will have to know some design skills or take the help of someone who can design or get a design by paying.

Blog tools: There are huge amount of tools that are available if you pay for them, to help your blogging better. They contain stats packages, offline blog posting tools etc. If you are new to blogging you will not need these tools but as you get deep into it, you might need them.

If you are a newbie in the field of blogging and not too technologically minded then there are a few blog platforms that are better suited for you. The other alternative is to search for someone who could help you technically. The best part about blogging is that there are a wide range of information available as well as some devoted forums that help people to understand more about the platforms they have selected. While selecting a platform it would be good to find out what others are into. In the past few years a number of platforms have taken birth and later perished and it would continue to happen.

Once you are clear with the above questions then you will have to ask yourself if you want a hosted platform or a stand alone platform.

Hosted Blog Platforms:

Hosted blog platform is a kind which many bloggers select in the beginning just for the reason that they are easy to use and less expensive. The most popular hosted blog platform is blogger.com. However you will also find platforms such as MSN spaces and WordPress.com. These platforms are hosted blog platforms as they host the blogs on their own domain. Once your blog is created, you will be given a web address that is normally a combination of the name of your blog and their own URL.

Stand Alone Blog Platforms:

The other type of blog platform is stand alone platform that is hosted under your personal domain. Textpattern, B2Evolution, are some of the stand alone blog platforms that you can make use of.
