SEO Guidelines - Important Search Engine Optimization Tips

Search engine optimization is important because it improves the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines. Do you want to put your website in the high ranking? Here are some tips you have to consider:

Website Optimization = Content + Links = High Ranking

1. How Google Measures Link Popularity

Higher link popularity scores = Higher search engine ranking

Link popularity is by far the most important factor for determining your search engine ranking. You need to know what link popularity is, why it is so important, and how Google measures your link popularity (over 50% of all search engine traffic comes from Google, and if you can get to the top of Google, you will raise to the top of the others search engines as well).

Link popularity - the number of links (votes) that SE have for your site.

Here is a link for a good tool that measures the link popularity from SE’s. It shows you the link popularity from Google Yahoo and MSN and lets you to see the history report so you to figure out the rise of your site.

2. Articles

Consistency is the key. It is a fact that as more and more articles are added to article directories, your article will go lower in the listings, but if you constantly and consistently submit new articles, then you will continue to reap the benefits. Making articles is a great way to build up the link popularity of your website. It gives you life-time links.

- Always close your articles off with a link to your site which is relevant to the copy of the article. Hyperlink the keyword with your url. For example:

Author Bio:
“Johnny Brown is an expert in affiliate marketing. Visit his site for more online marketing tips.”

3. Control Your Words

“Not everything that counts can be counted and not everything that can be counted counts”.

This does not apply to our situation. In the Meta Tags, you must count every word and every keyword. Use a tool like this one to count the characters from your Meta tags.”

4. Optimize the Title Tag

- Include 1-2 of your most important keyword phrases in the title tag, but don’t just list keywords.

If you just list keywords, you risk being viewed as spamming the search engines which can ultimately lead to you being blacklisted and not included at all.

- Your title tag should include your keyword phrases within a readable sentence to avoid this problem.

- Make your title appealing to humans!

Don’t forget that even if you get that top listing in the search engines, our listing still needs to say something that makes the surfer want to click your link and visit your site.

- Since the length of your title tag could cause some engines to crop it, we suggest place the keywords at the beginning of the tag when possible to decrease the risk of having them cut off.

Each page of your site should have its own title tag with its own keywords that relate to the page that it appears on.

5. Optimize the Meta Description Tag

- Give appropriate descriptions (as some search engines display this description in the search result), make it more appropriate to your site. Put only targeted keywords in description. Do not stuff the description with more keywords. Restrict the number of words in this tag to 10 to 15 words.

- Place the most important phrases at the start of the description, so, even if any search engine omits some part of the description, the important phrases will be displayed.

6. Optimize the Meta Keywords Tag

The importance of Meta Tags is debated these days. So this is an optional extra.

- Include only the keywords that appear in the body text, and no more than 5-7 keywords. Add alternate spelling of words (including typos) and synonyms of those keywords.

WordPress Top Plugins - Useful Plugins You Must Have

As a blogger using wordpress, I should say that wordpress it is a great free blogging software. For me (and most of you I guess!) wordpress is the top #1 blogging software…are you with me on that?!…sure you are or you have never used it!

Any way; There are many wordpress plugins out there, that makes blogging using wordpress blogging software much easier and amazing. Each of those different wordpress plugins is used for a purpose that for sure improves your blogging and blog in a way. The number of wordpress plugins is countless! and every day there is new wordpress plugins released.

But there are always wordpress plugins that are essential (a must have plugins)….so today I’ll post about some of them that I think are some of the top plugins that any blogger should have, and some that helps in some ways and I personally use:

WordPress Useful Plugins and Must Have Plugins

Akismet - This is a default WordPress plugin for stopping spam comments. It should be active or else, you will get unbeleivable spam comments in your posts!

Adsense-Deluxe - This plugin helps you to manage placing Google AdSense ads in your WordPress Posts.

FeedBurner FeedSmith - This plugin detects all ways to access your original WordPress feeds and redirects them to your FeedBurner feed so you can track every possible subscriber.

Google XML Sitemaps - This plugin will generate a sitemaps.org compatible sitemap of your WordPress blog which is supported by Ask.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO. This is usefull for SEO.

All in One SEO Pack - As the name says it! This plugin is a must for your SEO management. It’s full of options for optimizing your post’s title, discretion, sitemap option, etc..

Show Top Commentators - This plugin will encourage more comments from your readers, by rewarding them every time they post a comment! Readers with the most comments are displayed on your Wordpress blog, with their names (linked to their website if they provided one)….In case this plugin didn’t work, you may check Top Commentators Widget plugin (works the same)

Smart Archives - This plugin will create an Archive page for you, just incase you don’t have an Archive page on your blog offered with the theme.

Subscribe To Comments - This is a so must have plugin! It allows your readers to receive notifications of new comments that are posted to an entry they subscribed to. When they comment at your blog, they will have an option to check a box (for notification), then they will get email notification of further comments. This plugin helps a lot in having your visitors returning back to your blog.

Top Posts By Category - This plugin helps you to have your top posts in one place for your visitors. You can place this in your sidebar, or create an entire page for it.

WordPress Database Backup - We all know we should backup our databases daily. This wordpress plugin is saved us a lot of trouble! It simply adds automatic daily backup functionality for your all important database. Your can have the backups placed directly on your web server, or emailed to you.

Brian’s Threaded Comments - This plugin gives you threaded comments and a “wandering” comment form.

WordPress.com Stats - This plugin works like any tracker, that will track you blog’s traffic stats. Tracks views, post/page views, referrers, and clicks.

runPHP - This plugin enables you to embed PHP code directly into your posts.

Contextual Related Posts - This plugin show last 5 contextually related posts on single blog posts, right after the comment form. It is a good idea for your readers to have a chance to see your other posts related to the one they are reading.

Well those are some of the top and useful (must have wordpress plugins)…There are other useful plugins for your social networking, and bookmarking services, I will make a special post for them…Mean while if you think that there is any “must have” plugin I forgot to mention here, please feel free to say in a comment.

Well as I have won two previous seo contests (the only two I entered!), I was excited to hear about this new one, and the price is great! … But this time I am late in entering, and there are already many competitors on this contest … Plus, this time most of the competitors are from a Big SEO Forum! The UKWW (UK Webmaster World) is running this great Seo Contest which has started on the 1st of February 2008. The UK Webmaster World Community has launch this International Seo Contest to which 300 registered members are allowed to take part in. The winner of the International Seo Contest 2008 would receive the top prize of $1000.00, further more the next 3 Seo contestants to take up the 2nd, 3rd & 4th spot would get a respectable $100.00 each.

What is the Seo Contest 2008?

The UK Webmaster World owners and management decided the task for this Seo Contest, that is a certain keyword which would be there targeted keyword search. This keyword “seocontest2008” is unique and no search results was available for that term. They then announced this keyword on the 1st of February 2008 at 00:00 to which all members taking part in the International UKWW Seo Contest 2008 would be able to begin there Seo campaign and fight for the first spot in Google.com for this keyword.

How to Enter the Seo Contest 2008

The International Seo Contest started on the 1st of February 2008, but don’t worry you can still join if you don’t mind starting later (as I did!) … just remember to act soo as there is only 300 spots … wondering how much is taken by now?!!

If you are still interested in joining in the race to the top of Google, you will need to do the following to validate and identify your self within the UK Webmaster World Seo Contest 2008 “seocontest2008″. • Every optimization techniques are allowed except cloaking, and hiding text. We will periodically compare the optimized pages with their cached version in order to discover the cloackers, hence we kindly ask you to avoid using any kind of no archive meta tag.

• No multiple entries are allowed - ONE URL per forum member.

• Participants are allowed to change URL but with the same requirements - at the moment of registration new url can not have any cashed version or incoming links. Old URL will be removed from database and no longer allowed to be used.
