How to select a Niche Subject for your Blog
How to select a niche subject is a very commonly asked question. The most effective way to begin thinking about what your blog has to be about is to keep in mind what you are about. You have to spot your interests and excitement for different subjects. You might very often feel like starting a blog that other people are interested in or what fetches more income. However, there is no much sense in starting a blog that you are not interested in. There are two important reasons for this.
To begin with, if you wish to create a famous and well appreciated blog, then it will take you great time and you will have to keep a long-period target in setting it up. Therefore you will have to question yourself whether you can write on the particular subject for a long time. If the answer is no, then it’s wise to think of some other subject.
Secondly, your readies will easily realize if you are interested and have a hold on the subject or not. Blogs that have no strong and attractive content in them do not grow. It is very obvious that no one wants to reader something written by someone who has no hold on the subject.
Is the Subject Famous?
The blogger’s interest is an important element, but it is not sufficient to make a blog famous. The other important element is that people desire to read the matter on the subject you are writing on. The rule of demand and supply is what many students are thought in the beginning of their economics class. You would be fascinated about the subject you are writing but unless the readers are interested you will have to struggle establishing your blog. Remember that you are writing in a means with a world wide readership and thus you do not require a subject that everyone is looking for. Just that a few people are looking for because it is also something that even a tiny percentage of audiences have a dynamic interest in it could be a profitable area.
Is the Subject growing or dwindling?
Remember that famous subjects keep changing eventually. It is excellent to get on a subject before it turns out to be big rather than when it is turning down. This is not an easy task but predict the next great stuff that people will be in need of and you could be very successful. Always try to give the people what they are looking for. Observe what people are looking for and what the recent trends are.
What are the competitions?
One of the problem that some of the bloggers are locked into while selecting a subject is to go for the most famous subjects without considering the competition that they would have to come across in the market. The chances are if you have selected a niche that you think is in demand at the time that others would also have. It’s the concept of demand and supply that again comes. For any amount of demand for information on a particular subject there would just be a few sources having the required information that is necessary on that subject.
The web is turning out to be a more scattered place and at times it looks like there are no niches that are available to blog on. This is a fact in many famous topics. But, keep in mind that you will not have to go for the subjects that have less or no competition that are the excellent earners. At times blogs become a large fish in a tiny lake rather than a tiny fish in a larger lake.
When your competition would have the privilege of an established audience, you have the privilege of flexibility and can locate your blog faster to pack an empty space in the niche that you observe. By doing this you generate a sub-niche inside the wider subject.
One of the main elements of a successful blog is that the capacity to carry on with new content on the subject for a long time. On the other hand, one of the factor that would put an end to many blogs is that their run out of matters to publish. To check if you have enough content could be done in two ways;
1- See if you have sufficient content within you as an author. The answer would be yes only if you have enough interest and passion towards the subject.
2 -See if you have access to sufficient sources that could help you with your content. There are a number of tools that you can find that could guide you in getting content.
If you wish to earn some income through blogging you will have make a research on whether the subject you have selected has any possibility to earn income. It is excellent to find a subject that you are interested in that just is in great demand and no competition; but the fact is that majority of the subjects that you select would have at least one drawback. But don’t let this stop you. At times you just have to stop thinking and start blogging. The main answer is to identify the drawback and try to solve it.

One point here that seems to be a key reason many sites are not able to continue is that the writers of them did not have enough material to provide to the public. The shortage causes them to close up shop in the middle of the build-up process, and so the readers start to switch to another site that has material that is still coming.
can u suggest any tool to know which keyword or niche is been searched mostly in search engines ? so that to choose from those results
Great post. I totally agree with not starting a blog or any business for that matter that you are not interested in. Your dead before you start. Everyday will be like torment trying to product content and market something you have no interest in.
hv few niches in mind but totally confused by which niche to start with.
and also wat do u say to start first with ? a blog or a website ?
Very well written article.
I have found my niche.I do not know how popular is the subject though.

Great article. Puneet, I would start with the one you are personally more interested in. Get some income coming in then you will be more likely to stick with niche blogging for sites you aren’t 100% interested in later on.
Shruti, I wouldn’t start working on the niche until you do some competition research. Try putting related keywords through the search engines to see how many other people have sites on the topics. Use a keyword research tool like google’s and see how many people per month search using that keyword!
Great article!

I have one more to add. “Are you passionate about your niche?”
Having a niche of your interest helps you because-
1) You already have some basic understanding about the topic.
2) You can blog indefinitely without getting bored or losing motivation.
3) Your interest or disgust will get reflected in the posts you write. You won’t want your readers to know that you are not interested in the topic.
One more point.
You must also check the profitability of the niche if you are blogging for money.
Yep Sandy, that’s exactly what I was trying to get at
Good points dr. Sandy
i have started a niche blog now … tryin to make it more better with interest and working harder on it and make better ..
m tryin to keep more attention on content, visitors and also many other things …
It is quite a task when selecting niche topic for a blog. I remember the confusion i was in when i wanted to do the same for me…
Many niche’s will work, it’s a matter of following threw and to keep working. Too many give up to easy.
You have to know there will be competition, so you need to work hard to get ahead of others.
good info as I always want to know what is my niche, so I need to think about it.
To find a niche is very easy.. but to find a good niche is quite hard. For me, i dont really look what the best niche to begin with but the niche that i’m most passionate with. From there I believe will come a quality content.
Someone told me that a quality contest will need 500 words in a post.
For me, the important in blog is how people appreciate your posts/entries/stories. Think of a niche subject which interest you most, like if you love Computer Games, then why don’t try make a blog for reviewing computer games. Am I right? Anyways, I managed lots of blogs right now but few of them especially related to personal, entertainment is most updated. I haven’t updated my MMO blog since I don’t get recent payments from online programs.

If you can find a niche that works for you and you’re passionate about, there is nothing like it. When you’re able to mix your passion and work, the results are always fantastic.
One point here that seems to be a key reason many sites are not able to continue is that the writers of them did not have enough material to provide to the public.
i have my own 25 blogs…now i buy one more thinking of adding some stuff in it..
i hope this blog get me some points..
Excellent article! You are absolutely bang on about the need a niche that you can get passionate about. One of my coaches told me that attitudes are contagious and I needed to make sure mine was worth catching. We can’t expect our team to be more excited than we are not nor can we expect them to do more than we are prepared to do. Leaders set the pace, and like you said to be successful we need to find something that gets us excited and has the ability to put us into profit when we execute our action plan.
Go after your passion with laser like focus – thanks for the post, awesome stuff!
I always use Google Trends to to select theme of my sites of blogs and Adwards also best option for the same.
I work for a publishing house and we are contracted with The Mail, The Guardian, The Telegraph and The Times. We produce special interest reports and distribute with these titles (different subject matters are tailored to the readerships of the designated paper) nationally. Obviously, it’s you, the reader, that has the choice to read any kind of supplement or report. Which titles or subjects do you think more attention should be warranted to? Any kind of ideas are welcomed, from health to business to entertainment, i.e. ‘Economized motoring’; ‘Hepatitis’; ‘Aviation’, etc. Thank you for your suggestions
