Tips for Choosing Your Domain Name

The first step when you want to start a new website about any category is Choosing a Domain Name. It is the first decisions you will have to make for your website. It is not that choosing a name for your site will determine the overall success or failure of your online business, but it will, however, affect almost every aspect of your business. Therefore; Finding a good domain name requires extensive planning.Tips For Successfully Choosing A Domain Name:

- Use the .com extension: .COM is still the number one choice for the majority of online businesses. Although .net , .biz , .org , .info , etc.. are viable alternatives they are not as widely recognized as .com. It will immediately give you and your business more credibility. Also keep in mined that many people automatically include .com when typing in almost any web address!

- Make it easy to remember: Make it stick out in people’s minds. You want your domain name to be easy to remember. Be creative. Be Unique. And let it have a meaning!

- Keep it Short: Whenever possible your domain name should not be longer than 13-15 characters, numbers, or hyphens.

- Be Descriptive: Your domain name should have something to do with your business. Make it descriptive of your site, your product offerings, or your service.

- Include Keywords in Your Domain Name: If you couldn’t find a domain name with one of your keywords, try to at least include 1 and if possible 2 keywords in your domain name. This will definitely help with the search engines’ ranking of your site.

- Search for Deleted Domain Names: Try to search for the domain names that were once registered but have expired. With some research you might be able to find one of these names that would be a good fit for your business. This will help more than a new domain name.

Remember, choosing your domain name is one of the most important first steps you will take in building your online presence.

Your domain name is your first chance to build credibility with your visitors. Keep in mind that you never get a second chance to make a great first impression!
